Here’s what I do when I run into that problem:
- Break all existing portals in the Nether. Don’t destroy them; just remove one obsidian block from each one.
- Go through the new overworld portal. It should generate a new portal in the Nether.
- Fix the Nether portals you broke back in step 1.
